Reader Request - New Year's Eve '11

Greetings Fashion Mavens,

I have a reader request to share with you all from Marija.

Hi,

i've been reading your blog since recently and i really like it. I was wondering if you could help me style my New Year's eve look. I bought a blue lace dress and merlot heels, similar to the ones i send you in Attachments. I was planning on wearing them and the dress combined with gold jewerly and gold clutch, also wearing nail polish and lipstick in the colour of the heels. The ring i have is gold with a merlot stone on it and i also have a gold link bracelet. Do you think i need some more jewelry e.g. some necklace? What do you think of my combo? Do you have any other suggestions? I would really appreciate your response.

Thank you.

I love the color combination you chose. This will be a fabulous look for New Year's Eve. The merlot color is on trend and besides, berry colors look awesome for any winter soiree! Now on to the accessories, I think what you have so far sounds great. However, I believe if you're getting dressed up for a holiday party, you should definitely add a little more bling. I would suggest you add a statement necklace with a little sparkle to be on trend with the festive season.....OR you can add some sparkly earrings to increase the "wow" factor of your outfit. I have included some visual examples below. Please note that the dress I included in the following sets is the closest one I could find to the one you're wearing.

Reader Request - New Year's Eve - Part II

Lace dress, £79
Arturo Chiang round toe platform pumps, $69
Anya Hindmarch glitter clutch, $550
Yves Saint Laurent chain bracelet, £510
Cocktail ring, £15
Jessica Simpson chandelier earrings, $45
Smashbox Bionic Mascara - Mascara - Eyes - Makeup, $19

One option is to add a pair of earrings that make a statement, and a clutch that pulls in the color of both the ruby and the blue. A glittered clutch will allow you to easily tie the different hues together. If you decide to go with the statement earrings, a pair that is a little lengthy (reaches chin length), would pull the observer's eye to your face.

Scoop back dress, £79
Arturo Chiang round toe shoes, $69
Anya Hindmarch clutch hand bag, £350
Spike jewelry, $24
Yves Saint Laurent gold plated jewelry, £140
Yves Saint Laurent oversized jewelry, £510
ASOS genuine leather belt, $22
Lancôme 'Hypnôse Doll Lashes' Mascara, $25

You could also add a thin belt to your ensemble to break up the lace and create a curvy silhouette. Remember, thin is the key word here as anything larger than that would compete with your jewelry and just look "overdone".

Reader Request - New Year's Eve - Part I

Scoop back dress, £79
Arturo Chiang round toe shoes, $69
Valentino clutch bag, $2,545
Yves Saint Laurent oversized jewelry, $1,595
Yves Saint Laurent oversized jewelry, £510
Revlon Vernis à Ongles Couleur N°022 All Fire Up, €11

A nice chunky statement necklace would look fabulous paired with your other items. Moreover, I think going with an animal print clutch will make a stylish addition to your look. Keep all the other accessories the same and you will have a drool worthy New Year's eve look.

I hope my suggestions help you out Marija.! Have a fabulous time hunni!
