Hot or Not: Denim on Denim

Greetings Fashion Friends,

Happy Hump Day!!! We're trudging along through this week, hopefully making the best of our blessings and placing our own unique stamp on the world. Hmmm....I'm falling a little short of that latter mark. I've been a wee bit unfocused the first few days of the week but its not too late to buckle down and get some things accomplished. My list is long but I'm determined to check every single line item off by Friday! I don't know about you, but when I write stuff down, I get things done because I hate to see it not crossed off my list. #motivation

But before I get to work, let's get the day started with fashion! I spotted a picture of the lovely Rihanna via NicoleBitchie.com and her outfit warranted a fashion question from me to you all........would you wear denim on denim?

Rihanna is rocking a pair of destroyed denim in a rugged wash paired with a denim button down top. The leather jacket and patent leather booties adds rock star edge and I'm absolutely loving her two-tone curls here.

Denim on denim can be a tough look to pull off. However, I think when you pair two denim garments of different hues, it works fabulously. In other words, a black pair of jeans paired with a blue denim top looks striking. This also works with different shades of the same color. See below for an example.

Denim on Denim

Helmut Lang vest, £90
Lot78 biker jacket, £695
Dolce Gabbana mini skirt, £117
Balmain black boots, $1,435
Silver ring, $20
Spike hoop earrings, $24
Ann Demeulemeester silver ring, $575
Marc Jacobs logo sunglasses, £105

I love to see my fashionistas push the style envelope. It's so badass, lol. In the set above I combined two different shades of blue denim to create a chic, yet unique look. Pairing denim on denim is not really trendy and I love it. I ironed a burnt, crispy hole in my denim top so I'm on the prowl for a new one....SMH.

So what do you guys think? Is denim on denim HOT or NOT?

Arrivederci!

I love jeans, I wear them almost all the time. But I don't wear more peaces at once.

I think the look can be pulled off if done correctly.. other cases it can look tacky.. I've never tried the look myself though.. kinda tempted lol

I love the denim on denim on others but I dont think that I can pull it off. Rihanna also looks great though the balmain boots are divine!

No that is not a good look. You are so right about writing things down. You do get things accomplish when you right things down.
For the most part- I'm not a fan of the look...
Love your blog!!!! :-)

I have never tried it. I think it's all up to the person & how it's done. The pic of RiRi in her denim on denim, I'm not feeling though.

Not! This is one of those "old school fashion rules" that I actually still follow today. Pairing black with brown, sure. White after labor day? Yep. But denim on denim...I just can't get with it! LOL! Not horrible, but not my flava either! But then again, I tend to be a little "safe" compared to true fashionistas anyways...lol
