Trend Watch: Mixed Prints

Greetings Fashion Divas,

I haven't done a trend post in a while....mainly because it takes so much time to do one as you search the good old trusty net to provide the visuals. However, today I'm making an obsession as my love affair with prints continues. I firmly believe in pulling a look together by either one or more of the following ways:

1. Make sure one color repeats in every piece of the outfit. I prefer to tie in the look with two or more colors but hey, to each his own.

The yellow color is the commonality between Jada Pinkett Smith's printed ensemble above. Love it or hate it the prints do complement each other well.

2. For a bold pattern mix, contrast prints with dark and light backgrounds, however, this works best when the prints/patters are in the same color family.

Beyonce's Instagram look pops and the floral pattern in each piece has the same color scheme......perfection!

3. Combine small scale designs with large scale (i.e. checkered print with wide stripes)

I'm not too fond of Selena Gomez's dress but the print mix is a good example of large and small scale pattern mixing.

4. BE CONFIDENT!!!! This by far is the most important consideration when rocking a mixed print look. Don't you dare looked scared. If your combo takes you out of your comfort zone....in a self-conscious way, don't wear it! Otherwise, if you loved it when you eyed your reflection, then you shouldn't worry about the reception you receive once you leave your house.
