Breast Cancer Awareness

Greetings Fashion Pad Readers,

Welcome back from the weekend! I have so much to share with you all. But first, let's start off with a fabulous cause. October is breast cancer awareness month and I'm involved in so many events it's insane. Breast cancer affects both men and women, although male breast cancer is rare. In 2011, it is estimated that over 232,500 new cases of breast cancer will arise, and about 40,000 deaths will occur. Although breast cancer is more common in the Caucasian population, African-American females' mortality rate is higher. As a result, we need to make sure we are educating our communities. Breast cancer, if caught early, is a highly curable disease. Let's make sure we are getting ourselves screened at the appropriate time.

On Saturday, I attended a breast cancer awareness luncheon sponsored by my church and our health ministry. It was a really awesome event and at first, I was worried that we wouldn't have a good turnout but people were just late per usual, lol.

I rocked pink of course! Hmm....I have no idea why my photo was so grainy but I know why my hair is so disheveled....it was windy as heck!

As a part of the health ministry, I had to get there early to help set-up and decorate....I was in charge of the bows...and lovely gift bags.

Awkward close-up of my new hair.....I forgot to zoom out. O_o

These employees of the hotel teased me the entire afternoon...from the time arrived, to the time I left. They were too funny!

This young man's multi-pink bow tie was absolutely fabulous. Brother Glover always wears bow ties.

We started the reception with dinner.....the salad was so crisp and you guys must try glazed walnuts on your salad. I love to add them for my home salads but I've been unable to find them recently :-(

Bake chicken, mashed potatoes, and veggies.....

The desert was so cute.....but that didn't stop me from murdering it, lmbo!

Yummy!

The speaker, Reverend Powell, was a breast cancer survivor and she was so full of energy and inspiration that I was literally overwhelmed (Niagara Falls for me, lol). Check out her hat!

I love these polka dot heels! I think this was the first time I've worn them. I bought them months ago....SMH!

Earrings - boutique in Puerto Rico
Dress - Nordstrom
Belt - Forever 21
Rings - various street vendors
Handbag - Furla
Heels - Baker's

Remember to promote, as well as educate yourselves about breast cancer and more importantly, learn your family history because you may need to begin screening for cancer at an earlier age. Sending out mad love and kisses!

Arrivederci!

Good morning lovely! Thank you for sharing your adorable pics and reminding everyone about the importance of getting checked for this deadly disease. I knew a young woman that was 24 who died from it, very heartbreaking. Glad to see your out there as an advocate and looking fabulous as always!

You look wonderful!! Love the shoes!

It is awesome that your church had that luncheon for Breast Cancer. I think some ministries have gotten away from that kind of "ministry".
